Mysteries

There are mysteries we cannot know
And we know our ignorance
Shadows darken where they must
And we accept their shade
We accept our ignorance in word
But in action we contradict

Words fall from our lips
Explanations roll from our pens
We judge and propose
Speak pretense and certainty

We fill the shadows with more shadows
We bridge the unknown with the unknown
We define our heaven and hell
And paint visions and argue illusion

But the mysteries stand apart
They indulge our vain activity
And smile on our proud explanations
